Sperm Donors and Sperm Donation – A Gift To Mankind

Sperm donation is becoming an increasingly popular solution for male infertility and has gained tremendous development in the recent years. Artificial insemination is used for such sperms donated, in order to make pregnancy possible. So when is this process required? Donation of sperm is required when there are more than controllable abnormal semen attributes; this is one of the most common reasons. Other reasons include a history of vasectomy, chemotherapy or radiation exposure or a hereditary disorder. This is also to be attempted if there are Rhesus factor associated problems. Many single women, who want to achieve conception without involving in any physical relation, also attempt this method.

Apart from this, it is a personal choice for a woman or a couple to choose to go for such a sperm donation; it is their comfort level, mindset and necessities that are most important while adopting this method of conception. This decision if in the positive, leads to various tests and screening procedures on the donor, to ensure that the donor fulfills all the criteria required for the donation.

It is required and absolutely essential that the sperm donors be healthy and free from any STDs or life threatening diseases in order to be eligible to donate. Normally, most sperm banks ensure that their donors are absolutely healthy and capable of rendering good quality of seminal fluid and sperm, so that the artificial insemination has better chances of being successful.

There are separate screening procedures for known and anonymous donors; it is suggested that known donors be chosen for better reliability and better chances of pregnancy. However, anonymous donors may also work, since the screening procedures are quite strict in their checking. Sperm donors in all cases needs to be healthy, and must also be mentally prepared to allow the donation. A thorough checking of the medical history is performed, apart from checkup for Hepatitis, HIV, STDs and other critical diseases. Also, if the sperm recipient is required or wants to match certain other features and characteristics, tests are performed accordingly, in order to ascertain the features. A check up of the physical traits, habits and activities is also done; therefore, the screening is quite staunch and there is hardly any chance for failure. Hence, if you are looking to perform a sperm donation, or become a recipient, you will need to be mentally strong and prepared, in order to ensure that such a method proves to be successful and yields desired results.
